Storytime with Phynix and Anansi

“Storytime with Phynix and Anansi” features a sometimes dramatic and often comedic style of storytelling for the young and young at heart. It combines the art of the spoken word with music, visual art and puppetry to enhance the experience. Original music and songs are created for each story. The illustrations of featured books are projected onto a screen to engage the audience visually. In some instances, Phynix illustrates the stories himself using computer art in a style reminiscent of the great Canadian folk artist ‘Grandpa Moses’.  Anansi, his tiny spider finger puppet companion, who is himself the famous west African character entrusted with the title “keeper of all the stories” can often be coaxed into telling some of those stories in his own little voice to the delight of his children audiences.

Phynix brings 30 years experience in children's television as a performer, songwriter, composer and actor to Storytime with Phynix. These credits include Sesame Street, PBS's Shining Time Station and for twenty five years, CBC's beloved Mr. Dress Up among others. His music has been compiled in children's song anthologies. He has written for film and partnered with ParticipACTION, The Toronto Board of Education and Symphony Pictures in the promotion of children's health and well being. 'Storytime' is devoted to exploring and advancing the wonderful world of children's literature.
